How Fan Club customers are saving hundreds on bills

Celebrating one year of Lincolnshire’s offshore Fan Club!

Customers from Grimsby to Skegness have loved the savings the world’s first offshore wind tariff brings. By using local wind power whenever those offshore turbines are spinning, they’re saving big on bills – on average nearly £200 a year, with some of the top savers pocketing almost £400!

Fan Club’s big day out

To mark this milestone, we ran a special competition for some lucky Fan Club members to join Octopus Energy Generation CEO, Zoisa and get up close and personal with the Lincs offshore wind farm that’s making it all happen.

Check out the video below to see their amazing day on the water and the towering turbines behind their big savings:

How it works

When the breeze is strong out at sea, Octopus kicks in a 50% discount on electricity for Fan Club members. Members get a notification on the Octopus Energy app, so they can plan to do things like run the laundry or dishwasher when energy is at its absolute cheapest. It’s easy, and it’s made a real difference to our Fan Club community.

10,000’s of communities want to join the Club

Since we launched, more than 36,000 people from all over the UK have asked us to bring the Fan Club to their community. And with our other Fan Club sites in Yorkshire and Wales thriving, we’re on a mission to spread this windy revolution far and wide, working hard to identify new locations so more and more people can benefit.

With investments in even more offshore wind farms (like Hornsea One and Walney Extension) and projects across Europe, we’re not only helping local communities save on bills but also paving the way to a cleaner, greener future for everyone.

The key to bringing more windy savings to everyone?

It starts with building more renewables, and we’re going full speed ahead – with $2 billion already invested in offshore projects and $20 billion more planned by 2030. Plus, our new Winder program is matching up Fan Club-ready communities with landowners to fast-track onshore wind projects. But that’s just the beginning.

We’re also pushing for zonal pricing – a fairer system that would replace the current, one-size-fits-all electricity price across the UK. Instead, prices would vary by region, reflecting what it costs to produce and supply energy locally. This would make bills cheaper and save customers at least £2 billion a year.

So, here’s to year two of the Fan Club – bringing savings, sustainability, and a fresh breeze to the UK!
